Ebb and Flow

Our family spent the fourth at awesome Lake Okoboji - unfortunately without Mom as she was busy being transferred to Mayo after another bout of dreaded C diff infection. It is not likely at this point that she will be recovering, but I keep reminding myself that this woman lived through Pancreatic cancer 20 years ago and she is a scrappy woman. My elder son George just called and was offered a job in Ames, Iowa with a bio-agronomic company (I know - I don't know what the hell it means either, but very happy for him all the same).

I guess this would be an example of the ebb and flow of everyday life. One person in my family is starting his adult life while another is nearing the end of hers. I am smiling and crying at the same time.

  1. It's hard to realise at times that when one door opens another closes. As you say, the 'ebb and flow' of life. Well done to your son and your mum is clearly a fighter - good for her!

  2. Our mother's are about the same age, KC, so I know how you feel. We've almost lost her a few times but damn, she's tough. Stay strong, cherish your time with her.

Kudos to George! Whatever the heck it is he's doing.

    Hugs!!

  4. I can't believe your mom beat pancreatic cancer. That's nearly impossible so she must be one hell of a fighter. They say life is a gentle teacher. Not so much, huh?

  5. I like the way you describe it..the ebb and flow of life.

Inevitable, losing a family member. Sucks really. I'm processing the future loss of my own presently. She's in a nursing home, unresponsive, feeding tube.

Just enjoy the time you have.

    Great post. Thanks.
